The 12th annual Artesian Arts Festival, a comprehensive, daylong celebration of First American art and culture, has been scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 7th. This vibrant community gathering will be held at the Artesian Plaza in Sulphur, Oklahoma, having been rescheduled from its original April 5th date due to adverse weather conditions in the region.
A Diverse Showcase of Indigenous Artists
This anticipated event, hosted by the Chickasaw Nation, serves as both a juried art show and market, with participation open exclusively to artists from all federally recognized First American tribes. Organizers anticipate the attendance of more than 125 First American artists hailing from across the United States, who will present a vast and impressive collection of original art for purchase and appreciation.
Art patrons attending the festival can expect a dynamic display of mediums, including intricate jewelry, photography, textiles, basketry, sculpture, metalworking, beadwork, paintings, and pottery. The festival has previously demonstrated its broad appeal, welcoming over 15,400 art enthusiasts to downtown Sulphur in the preceding year.
Culture, Entertainment, and Community
The Artesian Arts Festival is a family-friendly event that is open to the public at no charge and offers a wide range of activities for all ages. Beyond the visual arts, the celebration will highlight First American music, dance, and cuisine. A talented lineup of entertainment is planned, featuring continuous live music and captivating First American dance demonstrations. In addition, several food vendors will be on site, offering a wide array of popular festival favorites.
The event will be situated at the Artesian Plaza, which is adjacent to the Artesian Hotel, Casino and Spa, located at 1001 West First Street in Sulphur. Individuals seeking further information about the festival can contact Chickasaw Nation Arts & Humanities.
